about
I started writing this song on the back of a John Deere mower in Seaforth, NS overlooking the ocean. To me, it seemed like the beginning of the next chapter. I had all I ever dreamed of: a place by the sea, a woman who loves me, and a beer in the cupholder. The song celebrates having the simple things - nature, love and family - everything you need to build a home. Yip Walla Wahoo.
lyrics
I’ve got a cherry tree
A place by the sea
I got all I need
I’m building a home
I’ve got family
A woman who loves me
I got everything
I’m building a home
It got all good all at once
I got back the bad ones
And finished what I’d begun
Oh, look now at who I’ve become
I swung hard right for the fences
And rode pine on the benches
I fought hard in the trenches
Working on my defences
Defences, defences, defences
But oh it’s just like they said
I’m building a home
I’m building a home
I’m building a home
I’m building a home
Yip yip yip yip walla wahoo
Yip walla wahoo
Yip walla wahoo
Yip walla wahoo
Yip yip yip do do do walla walla walla
I’ve seen sunshine
Felt the love divine
I got all the time
I’m building a home
I’ve seen men cry
Smelling cherry pie
I’ve seen every sign
I’m building a home
I got airtight alibis
But no need for telling lies
I’m always with the guys
We’re out back chasing butterflies
When they lay me down to rest
In the place I know best
With blossoms on my chest
I never went to Budapest
Budapest Budapest Budapest
But oh I got all the rest
I’m building a home
I’m building a home
I’m building a home
I’m building a home
Yip yip yip yip walla wahoo
Yip walla wahoo
Yip walla wahoo
Yip walla wahoo
Yip yip yip do do do walla walla walla
Yip walla wahoo
Yip walla wahoo
Yip walla wahoo
Yip yip yip do do do walla walla walla
Yip walla wahoo
